Your diet isn’t perfect, sure, but it’s not exactly chaos on your plate either. You move a little. And there’s no way you want to get too muscular, you wouldn’t want to end up looking like a man. 

It’s like a kind of fatalism is slowly settling into your mind. Well, not completely, otherwise you wouldn’t be sitting in front of your screen reading these words. And actually, we have two things to tell you.

The first is that if you recognized yourself in these words, you are what’s called skinny fat

The second is that the physical and psychological state you’re in today can change. And you’re in the right place for that. 

Believe us, you can get the firm, lean body you want. And that’s true whether you’re 30, 40, 50, or even 60. But not just any way. 

Elene and Amandine were in a similar situation before contacting us. Here’s what they achieved in just a few months.

What exactly does it mean to be “skinny fat”?

Literally, skinny fat means “thin and fat.” Yes, both at the same time. It may sound contradictory, but it’s the situation many women are in without even knowing it.

Basically, here’s what it looks like: 

  • You’re not overweight;
  • You may even fit into a size 6 or 8;
  • Your body lacks firmness, it feels “soft”;
  • You carry localized fat, stomach, hips, glutes, while the rest of your body is slim; 
  • You have very little muscle tone;
  • You regularly feel low on energy and tired. 

That’s what being skinny fat is.

And here’s what it can look like:

Gina, 43, is a special case since she gained nearly 14 kg of muscle in 1 and a half years. She completely transformed the body she had at the start of coaching. Today, she is firm and lean. Gina enjoyed strength training and nutrition so much that she now competes in bodybuilding.

Véronique, 36, is the perfect example of a skinny fat woman. On the left, Véronique was slim but made up mostly of body fat. She had very little muscle, and she could feel it. Three months later, on the right, she had lost nearly 4 kg of fat while toning her body.

Being skinny fat is incredibly frustrating. Your body feels soft, but your weight on the scale is nothing extreme.

You may even have heard:

"But you’re slim, what are you complaining about?"

Or:

"You don’t need to go on a diet."


Except no one else lives in your body for you.

But the good news is that this is neither inevitable, nor a matter of age, nor a genetic punishment. It’s simply the result of certain imbalances in your lifestyle. Imbalances you can correct.

And what imbalances are we actually talking about?

How do you become skinny fat?

The answer comes down to 2 things:

  • Lack of physical activity and muscle stimulation;
  • Poor diet (processed food and nutrient deficiencies).

If you’re skinny fat, these two points probably sound familiar. 

If you don’t use the muscles in your body, or use them too little, they eventually “melt away” because of inactivity. As a result, you lose all muscle tone. 

If you combine that with a diet low in protein, a nutrient essential for muscle development, and processed meals that are low in nutrients and high in calories, you end up with excess fat and too little muscle. That’s where the “flabby” look comes from. 

It’s the combination of these different factors, piled up over the long term, that leads to becoming skinny fat. Your metabolism and genetics have nothing, or very little, to do with it. 

Now that we’re clear on that, let’s look together at the health consequences that being skinny fat can lead to.

Being skinny fat, a sign your body needs change

Don’t worry, you’re not going to die tomorrow because you’re skinny fat. On the other hand, this situation affects your life right now, and it could affect it even more in the years ahead. And yes, we know. Anything that isn’t urgent usually gets pushed back. It’s up to you to decide whether being healthy now and for the rest of your life matters to you. 

Concretely, here’s what it means for your health today:

  • It becomes easier to gain fat.

The less muscle you have, the fewer calories your body burns at rest, and the faster you store fat. That explains why you gain weight even though you “don’t eat that much”.

  • Fatigue and constant ups and downs in your mood.

You get energy crashes, a constant feeling of heaviness, and motivation that is far from its best. So it directly affects everything you do, and don’t do, in daily life.

  • Very low self-esteem.

Having a body you don’t like is one of the best ways to lose all self-confidence. You feel self-conscious, which creates behaviors and reactions that are draining on a daily basis and greatly affect your social life.

And that’s without even mentioning the risk of sarcopenia you expose yourself to as you age, a condition that can itself lead to osteoporosis. And let’s be clear, aging under those conditions is something we wouldn’t wish on anyone. There’s a reason health professionals encourage people to move regularly and stay physically active.

But nothing is set in stone. As we told you earlier, a few months of effort with the right strategy are enough to completely reshape your body. And beyond your body, your overall health will benefit too. It’s a win all around.

Now it’s time for us to share the scientific method that has helped the skinny fat women we’ve coached for years reshape their bodies.

What’s the solution for getting rid of your skinny fat body?

Here we are.

It’s time to look at how to stop being skinny fat. And no nonsense here. If you don’t know us yet, you’ll quickly understand that everything we share to help you improve your physique is based on:

  • Science;
  • Our coaching expertise (which we started in 2015);
  • The feedback and experience of the 3,000 women we’ve coached through their physical transformation.

Concretely, the goal of a skinny fat woman (and it’s probably yours) is twofold:

  • Lose the excess fat she has accumulated, even though she is slim, she still carries too much fat;
  • Build muscle mass, which will allow her to have a firm, balanced, healthy body.

Put simply, she wants to reshape her body. And to get there, a skinny fat woman needs to follow 4 golden rules:

  1. You will tone your body through strength training ;
  2. You will have a sufficient daily protein intake;
  3. You will use a caloric deficit and a calorie surplus adapted to your profile;
  4. You will track changes in your weight and the look of your body.

These 4 rules work together. Leave one out, and all your efforts will collapse like a house of cards. 

Let’s go through each of these points together.

You will tone your body through strength training

We’ll be direct, strength training is your best ally for firming up your whole body. For one simple reason, it allows you to target every muscle in your body. It even lets you put more emphasis on the areas you want to develop more. And that’s how you get the silhouette you truly want.

And no, don’t worry, you’re not going to become a bodybuilder. You won’t end up super muscular if you don’t want to.

But if your goal is to finally feel good in your body, regain confidence, and be in shape, you’re in the right place.

That’s exactly what Laure and Cécile experienced.

Laure, 32, no longer recognized herself. The fat building up around her stomach and hips was crushing her morale. It felt stuck there, like it couldn’t be removed. Cécile, 48, had been yo-yo dieting with her weight. When it came to food, she alternated between letting herself go and total restriction. And all that without doing any physical activity, she barely even walked. So her body fat percentage was high, and her lean body mass, her muscles, was very low. It was far from easy, but with perseverance and discipline, Cécile managed in 1 year to do what she had never managed in 48 years, take back control of her body. She completely eliminated her excess body fat and toned her body. Today, she is slim and firm. And above all, she feels better in her body.

How did they stop being skinny fat?

Among other things, they followed a training program adapted to their profile. Some of our clients prefer to train at home, while others prefer going to the gym. So we’d like to show you two versions of a typical strength training program for a skinny fat woman.

Most of our clients who are new to strength training prefer training at home with minimal equipment. There are many reasons for that: flexibility, family life, lack of self-confidence when starting out, etc.

That’s how Cécile has trained since the beginning. She even set up a home gym and gradually bought equipment.

Training at home is a very good alternative to the gym. You can absolutely sculpt your body by training at home. The program we’ve put just below will help you do that.

Exercises starting with the same number, like 1a and 1b, are part of the same combo, that means you can perform them in whichever order suits you. @15RM means “at your 15-rep max.”

Get as close as possible to muscle failure by trying to do as many reps as possible with good form. Good technique is essential to avoid injuries and increase the benefits of your training. So make sure you control all your movements well.

You can do 3 to 4 workouts per week, alternating between workouts A and B each time.

Do you prefer training in a gym ? Here’s what a training program for a skinny fat woman in the gym can look like.

When you can do 15 reps with a given weight, add about 2.5% more weight, or the smallest amount of weight you can add, for the next set.

Don’t try to lift heavier at the expense of how well you perform the movement. Good exercise execution is your priority. It’s that good execution that will allow you to gradually increase the weights you use safely. And it’s this principle of progressive overload that will allow you to get stronger and stronger, and therefore sculpt your body. It’s a virtuous cycle.

Now that we’ve covered the training side, let’s talk about nutrition, which is just as important.

You need to have a sufficient daily protein intake

Science is very clear on this. To optimize your muscle gains, and therefore all the work you put in to get them, you need to consume between 1.8 g and 2.2 g of protein per kg of body weight per day

It will be 1.8 g if you consume animal protein, meat, fish, etc., and 2.2 g if you are vegetarian or vegan.

Why the difference?

For one simple reason, the proteins found in a vegan diet are less bioavailable, meaning they are less easily absorbed by the body. So you need to eat more of them to reach the required daily amount.

And why consume this amount of protein rather than another? 

Because it’s the ideal amount to allow your muscles to recover after training, and therefore to grow. Below that, your muscles won’t have enough “fuel” to function properly, and above that, your muscles won’t have the capacity to use it effectively. 

Concretely, a 60 kg person who eats animal protein should ideally consume 1.8 x 60 = 108 g/day of protein to build muscle optimally. For a vegan, or vegetarian, person, it would be closer to 2.2 x 60 = 132 g/day of protein. 

How do you know whether you eat enough protein every day? 

You simply need to track it with an app. Today, there are plenty of apps that let you accurately track the amount of calories and nutrients, fats, carbohydrates, protein, etc., that you consume each day. As for us, we created our own tracking app, based on our experience with this kind of app and on the feedback from all the women we’ve coached.

It’s this kind of app that Nathalie and Virginie used to transform their skinny fat silhouette.

Now let’s move on to the third golden rule for a skinny fat woman.

You will use a caloric deficit and a calorie surplus adapted to your profile

How much food should you eat when you want to lose fat and build muscle? How do you know if you’re on the right track? If you’re eating too much? Not enough? Why a caloric deficit and a calorie surplus?

When you want to transform your body, nutrition can quickly become a real headache if you don’t know where to start. But in reality, it’s much simpler than it seems. Let us explain. 

If you’re skinny fat today, the strategy to adopt is twofold: 

  1. First, eliminate your excess fat through a caloric deficit;
  2. Then, build muscle mass through a calorie surplus. 

But why do it this way?

Because the first goal is to get rid of excess fat. The kind that isn’t necessary for your health and gives your body that flabby look. To do that, there’s no way around it, you need to be in a caloric deficit. Put simply, you need to consume fewer calories than your body uses each day to function. That will force it to draw from your fat stores, and therefore gradually reduce them. Don’t worry, when done properly, it’s completely healthy and safe.

If you’re not obese, but potentially have 5 to 10 kg of fat to lose, we’ll aim for a caloric deficit ranging from 10 to 20% of your daily maintenance intake. That means if you need to eat 1,800 calories per day to maintain a stable weight, we’ll aim for a daily intake ranging from 1,620 calories to 1,440 calories depending on how many kilos of fat you need to lose. 

Once that deficit has allowed you to get just below the 20 % body fat mark, we’ll have the healthy foundation we need to move into a slight calorie surplus.

The goal of that slight calorie surplus will be to help you build muscle mass without accumulating too much body fat. That’s why it needs to be controlled. The goal is not to go back to your old body. 

And to get there, it’s the same principle as with the deficit. Depending on how much weight you need to gain, which depends on your goals, height, age, etc., a slight calorie surplus of 10 to 20% will be put in place.

To get back to our beloved caloric deficits and calorie surpluses, that’s the method Doris and Laurie followed to get rid of their skinny fat body.

60-year-old woman who reshaped her physique despite menopause.

At 58, Doris completely got rid of her skinny fat body. She eliminated her stubborn fat and toned her body like never before. Today, her scale shows -13 kg. On top of that, she reached both of her goals, getting a flat stomach and slimming down and sculpting her arms.

30-year-old woman who lost fat, stomach and legs, and built muscle throughout her body.
Laurie, 32, rediscovered her love of strength training after two years of a complete stop and letting herself go. Thanks to that, she lost more than 10 kg in barely 4 months and rebuilt the muscle in her body, which had become that of a skinny fat woman. Today, she has a toned body and a balanced silhouette.

And just like tracking your daily protein intake, you’ll be able to closely track your deficit and then your calorie surplus with an app, whether it’s ours or another one. That way, you’ll know exactly where you stand throughout the day and have the peace of mind of knowing you’re eating the right way to reach your goal.

We’re now getting to the last golden rule for the skinny fat woman, which complements the first three.

You will track changes in your weight and the look of your body

This last point is directly linked to the 3rd golden rule. If you have physical goals, both in terms of the number on the scale and your aesthetic result, you need to track your progress to make sure you’re actually moving toward your goal.

And you need to do that weekly. 

To do that, there are 2 complementary things to monitor: 

  • Your weight;
  • Your physical appearance. 

First, your weight. We know most people approach their physical transformation thinking mainly about weight. It’s data that feels good psychologically when the kilos go down on the scale, but it isn’t enough to properly track your physical progress. 

Take the example of Priscillia, 26.

At the very end of coaching, Priscillia weighed 55 kg at 1.67 m. Only 1 kg separates this before and after. And yet, her silhouette is completely different. 

If we showed you these two photos without indicating her weight, you’d probably think Priscillia weighs a good 5 kg more in the bottom photo.

Depending on the case, some skinny fat women will lose only 2 to 3 kg by the end of their transformation, while others will lose 8 or 9. But that doesn’t mean they only lost 2 or 3 kg of fat. No, it means they may have lost 6 kg of fat and gained 4 kg of muscle. So you need to approach your physical transformation as a true body recomposition.

That’s why weight is not a sufficient indicator for tracking your physical transformation. If Priscillia had relied only on that, we don’t think she would have kept us as her coaches for very long. So you also need visual tracking of your body. That’s what will allow you to see how your body composition, the amount of fat and muscle, changes throughout your physical reshaping. 

It’s the combination of these two data points that will allow you to know precisely whether you’re on the right path. 

And there you have it. You now have all the information you need to get rid of your skinny fat body. To eliminate those kilos of fat that obsess you and firm up your body. And to do it in a completely healthy, natural, and sustainable way. No miracle supplements and no ridiculous methods.

Despite having a varied athletic background, I was no longer making progress after a difficult ordeal and the effects of menopause. 10 months ago, I joined Jérémy's program feeling deeply exhausted, both physically and mentally, with the sense that I'd tried everything without ever being able to stick with it over time.

Living with moderate obesity, I tried different methods, diets, fasting, and even electrostimulation, but I always ended up giving up, with more frustration, more guilt, and extra weight gained.

The real wake-up call came when I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea: my weight gain was no longer just about my appearance or my self-esteem, but also about my health.

Hello, I'm 52 years old, and I had been struggling for more than 5 years trying to lose weight. I was exhausting myself doing cardio, Pilates, basically trying a bit of everything, and when it came to food, I thought I was eating well.

A difference of about 10 kg (weight loss) and a more toned physique.

Not everything was perfect. Sometimes, I didn’t follow the program, and Jérémy helped me let go of the guilt. Those moments are part of the process, what matters is doing your best and sticking with it. Sometimes, I felt like it was pointless, then I looked at the results. I was proud of myself. Other times, I was extremely consistent and it was absolutely on fire.

Before Jérémy, my body was a real obstacle and I didn’t understand why my weight was going up even though “I wasn’t eating that badly.”

After Jérémy, I understood: eating healthy is not the same as fat loss. There are so many factors to take into account, and I learned them by his side.

I chose to start coaching after gradual weight gain that was worrying me. Despite that, the professionals I saw did not take me seriously, since my BMI was considered "normal." I was often told that "after 40, that's completely common." And yet, deep down, I knew something was wrong. I'm one of those people who prefer to listen to their own feelings rather than blindly trust conventional narratives.

I dreamed of it, and Jérémy made it happen!

How can I describe the incredible life-changing experience of meeting Jérémy, a coach who is educational, kind, and always listening?
The ideal coach, really!

I’ve never exactly been naturally slim, but I have to admit I really went off track in recent years, gaining 20 kg in 5 years without managing to turn things around.
Despite my various attempts, cardio, diet support, EMS electrostimulation classes, and even "good resolutions", none of them worked.
So in the end, I had more or less resigned myself and accepted it: it was too late to change, and I would just live with the consequences of letting myself go for the rest of my life, dissatisfied...

Then, this summer, came the wake-up moment: I couldn’t keep up with my sons and my husband or fully enjoy family activities.
Determined to change the course of things and stop suffering through it without reacting, I clearly identified what I needed: support from someone able to help me both nutritionally and physically.

I reached out to Jérémy after gaining weight following a thyroidectomy, combined with the onset of menopause. I was stuck in limiting beliefs, convinced, after reading many testimonials from women in my situation, that it was almost impossible to lose weight after that kind of surgery and with menopause.
