I've had a lot of health issues. With every surgery, I felt like I was losing a part of myself. I watched my body change. On top of that, I was eating very little, and still didn't have the body that matched all those restrictions. Today, I feel much stronger. I'm in better health. I've taken back control of my body. I've rediscovered the pleasure of cooking and eating.

Sometimes, I get the feeling that my body started changing without even asking for my opinion. Not all at once. Not violently. Just slowly. Almost silently.

One morning, I look at myself in the mirror, and I see a woman I know. Well, not completely. A slightly more noticeable belly. A body that feels less firm. A slightly different shape. A fatigue that lingers, even after a good night's sleep. Clothes that don't quite fit the same anymore.

I tell myself it's normal, that it's age. After all, I'm not 20 anymore. I reassure myself however I can.

Then I try to think about something else. As if by stopping myself from thinking about it, that discomfort would eventually disappear. And from time to time, that nagging thought comes back. Wasn't it supposed to be gone?! It creates this vague feeling in me that something is slipping away.

As if I were losing a part of myself, without knowing how to hold on to it.

I'm not only suffering because of what I see. I'm suffering because I no longer recognize myself. Because I can no longer find the woman I used to be, energetic, alive, confident.

But deep down, I know she's still there, somewhere. And that woman refuses to give up. She whispers to me that it's not too late. That even after 40, even after going through hardships, it's still possible. 

This case study tells the story of a woman who listened to that voice. Who decided to take back control of her body after 40, even while her doctor was pessimistic about her. Cécile, 43, felt like her body was slipping away from her.

But she discovered that there was a way to reclaim her body. A healthy, sustainable path that can be summed up in three words: mindset, strength training, and nutrition.

Strengthening a painful body after 40, Cécile's starting point

“Other than walking, sports are over for you.” 

Those were the words Cécile got from her doctor. Not exactly motivating, we can agree on that. 

But then again, with: 

  • Shoulder surgery that led to paralysis of the left trapezius;
  • Surgery to remove her coccyx;
  • Surgery to remove her uterus following cancer;
  • And several other related surgeries;

The doctors had reason to be pessimistic. And yet, Cécile couldn't bring herself to accept those words. It simply wasn't an option for her.

Being trapped in a body you can do nothing with for the rest of your life? That's a very good way to lose your mind. And on top of that came the burden of constant osteopath appointments. When you have to get put back into place every other day because your body can't keep up anymore, it weighs on you. And not just a little. To the point that it had become too hard for Cécile to bear.

So she set herself one goal: find a way to strengthen her body. Find a way to make it strong enough to support her daily life. To no longer depend on an osteopath, or anyone else. Despite the surgeries. Despite the daily pain. Despite everything her doctor had told her.

To get there, she was looking for something sustainable. Something that would stay with her for the rest of her life.

There was no way she was going to throw herself into something that wouldn't last. Suffice it to say, traditional diets never appealed to her. Cécile had known too many women who hurt themselves because of dieting. They all ended up regaining more weight than they had lost. And that, within just a few weeks. A few months for the boldest ones.

In short, she needed a solution that was simple to put in place, sustainable, effective, and above all, designed specifically for her. That solution had to allow her to do one thing: reclaim her body.

That's when she contacted us.

The method for taking back control of your body after 40

Long-term change. That's what we're after. No matter why you want to take back control of your body, keep that in mind. What you're going to put in place has to be something that can work for the rest of your life. You need to be able to do it daily, without too much effort. Otherwise, it's not even worth considering. For one simple reason, sooner or later, you'll give up.

But what does a long-term solution actually look like when it comes to reclaiming your body?

This solution is built around 3 key pillars:

  • Mindset;
  • A personalized training program and nutrition plan;
  • Tracking your actions.

The idea is to follow these three fundamentals as closely as possible. And the results will follow. Just like they did for Cécile.

And just like they did for Caroline RECEVEUR, who also had to face cancer.

Mindset, the invisible foundation of any lasting transformation after 40

Before we even talk about training and nutrition, there's one essential element to take into account: your mindset. It may sound anecdotal, even superficial. And yet, your success is first and foremost decided in your mind.

It's this mindset that makes the difference between women who transform their bodies for good, and those who give up along the way.

The small-steps method, lasting change comes from small daily actions

When you're trying to take back control of your body after years of discouragement, dieting, fatigue, or hormonal changes, the natural reflex is to want to move fast. Lose weight fast. See results fast. Quickly regain control of what feels like it's slipping away.

But radical transformations achieved in just a few weeks never last very long. The women who succeed after 40 are the ones who aren't trying to feel good for three months, but to feel good for the next 40 years.

And for that, there is a simple and effective way to approach it. We call it the small-steps method.

A little every day is better than a lot once in a while. That's the simple principle behind the small-steps method. 

Spending 2 hours per workout at the gym? No need. Eating salad after salad to stay slim? Out of the question!

We told you above, the goal is to make your physical transformation as easy as possible to stick to. So we're looking to take small steps, every day. That means small actions that, repeated hundreds of times, transform you deeply.

A workout, even a short one, is one small step forward. A meal adapted to your goals is another. Drinking more water, walking a little more, choosing a smarter snack? Plenty of other small steps.

Each of these small steps, taken on its own, may seem insignificant. But a hundred small steps change a month. And a thousand small steps change a life.

That's exactly what allowed Cécile to take back control of her body. Moving forward a little every day. Despite busy days, fatigue, and everyday hassles. It also worked for Edith and Coralie.

Edith, 46, needed change. She wanted to reclaim her body so she could enjoy what life had to offer. Without falling into the traps of traditional diets. And for that, she was ready to take all the time she needed. The result? Through small daily actions, she completely transformed herself.

But the small-steps method doesn't come alone. It goes hand in hand with one final fundamental point.

Accepting imperfections, or how to become perfectly imperfect

There's a truth people don't talk about much, but that is ultimately part of everyday life for anyone who wants to take back control of their body: you will never have a perfect journey. And you absolutely do not need one.

Yes, you're going to slip up. Yes, there will be periods when you're more tired. And yes, there will be weeks that are less successful than others. That's normal. That's human. And above all, it's expected.

The trap that leads so many women not to start, or to give up along the way, isn't the slipup itself. It's what happens right after. That famous might as well give up mindset.

A small slipup at one meal ? Fine, I may as well give up for the day.
A day that doesn't go as planned? Well, since it's already off track, I'll wait until the weekend is over and get back to it seriously next week.
A week thrown off balance? It's going to be too hard to make up for all these slipups. And anyway, I won't make it. Might as well give up. 

This mechanism destroys more journeys than all slipups combined.

Cécile always refused to fall into that harmful mindset. Even though she could have given up a thousand times. Instead, she chose to approach things from another angle:

  • A slipup is only a drop of water compared to the ocean made up of your accumulated small steps;
  • It's normal to have occasional slipups, so you might as well accept them and move forward;
  • Sure, I slipped up today, but I still have the rest of the week to get back on track, so no stress.

That's what it means to be perfectly imperfect.

No more beating yourself up, punishing yourself, or putting yourself down over the slightest slipup. It's about moving forward despite the setbacks, knowing full well that a few slipups will never undo months of work on yourself.

It's this long-term approach, from which the small-steps method and the acceptance of imperfections naturally follow, that makes the transformations you see here possible. It's what allows you to take back control of your body for the rest of your life.

And that applies to all women. Laëtitia and Cécile went through it too. 

Laëtitia, 45, had been trying for 20 years to get a body she would finally feel good in. She kept jumping from diet to diet. Between failures and frustrations, she was on the verge of giving up. And yet, look at what she achieved 9 months after starting her coaching sessions.

Laëtitia lost more than 27 kg of fat, 24 cm off her waist, and 30 cm off her hips. All while firming up her entire body like never before.

The same goes for Cécile, 48.

In barely 1 year, her shape changed completely. Beyond the 11 kg of fat lost and the muscle gained, it was her mindset that changed. The might as well give up mindset is no longer part of who she is at all. She keeps moving forward every day, despite everyday imperfections. And it's paying off for her.

You get it, you have to be mentally ready to change physically. And physical change means concrete actions to put in place. That's where a personalized training program and nutrition plan come in.

Once your mindset is aligned with your goals, it's time to take action. 

But not just any way. We don't want just another generic program and vague advice. Things like transform your body in 12 weeks, or get your body ready for summer in just 2 months. These methods produce superficial, temporary results. 

Your body, your past, your daily life, your goals, all of these things are specific to you. They are unique. So your needs are not the same as another woman's.

A general approach ignores all of that. A personalized training program and nutrition plan take all of it into account. 

That's exactly what makes the difference. And that's exactly what will allow you to take back lasting control of your body.  

In practice, taking back control of your body after 40 mainly revolves around two things: 

  • A personalized strength training program;
  • Nutrition adapted to your tastes and your goals.

So let's start with the training side.

Strength training, or how to strengthen and sculpt your body after 40

At first, Cécile contacted us with the goal of strengthening her body. Not making it more aesthetic. But in the end, the solution we guided her toward allowed her to do both at once.

And that solution is strength training. 

Why strength training? The reason is simple. It's the only practice that allows you to strengthen each muscle in your body in a targeted way. That targeted strengthening allows you to develop each area of your body with precision. With a refined understanding of anatomy, it allows you to achieve a balanced shape. And therefore, a harmonious body. You kill two birds with one stone. A strong, aesthetic body.

You become the architect of your body. You can strengthen it as a whole, while putting more emphasis on the areas you want to highlight: rounder glutes, slimmer legs, slightly broader shoulders. You decide. Nothing is left to chance. 

In short, you control your shape. 

And the more you adapt your program to your goals, the more you control your body and shape it however you want. That's what Cécile wanted. And that's what works best. A personalized strength training program. One that specifically matches your profile and your goals.

For two years, Cécile did her strength training workouts at home. She felt good there, and got the results she wanted. A stronger body. Better health. But at that point, something had already been nagging at her for nearly a year. Without ever daring to take the leap. Simply because she thought it was impossible for her. And that thing was bikini fitness competition.

"When I saw the girls competing, I thought wow, what strength! I admired them. But I also told myself that with my useless shoulder, it just wasn't even something I could consider.

The girls Cécile is talking about are these:

Despite all her health issues, we suggested that Cécile take the leap. We suggested that she enter a competition. And the rest is history. We'll come back to that a little later.

In practice, to prepare for her competition, Cécile trained 4 to 5 times per week, from 50 minutes to 1 hour. She did this at the gym to optimize results. She alternated between upper and lower body, with the goal of strengthening and balancing her body as a whole.

Of course, if you prefer training at home, or doing shorter workouts, that's absolutely possible. The goal is for your program to adapt perfectly to you. If you're a beginner, you can for example start with 10-minute workouts, and gradually build them up as you progress.

Strength training isn't a solution we offer only to a few women. We include it in the coaching of all the women we coach. Because it's essential. But it doesn't come alone. To get the body you want, it goes hand in hand with a second element that is just as essential. Your nutrition. And you'll see that the nutrition side is much less complicated to manage than you think.

Nutrition, the 3 steps to lose fat and build muscle while enjoying your food

Nutrition can be a real headache when you don't know how to approach it. You hear everything and its opposite. That you shouldn't eat carbs when you want to lose weight. That you should avoid them at night because they make you gain weight. That you need to ban refined sugars from your diet. That you absolutely have to eliminate fatty and sugary foods from your diet. And that's just the beginning.

You no longer know what to think, so you end up doing what feels right. And as soon as you step a little outside the rules you've imposed on yourself, it's a disaster. You feel guilty, you deprive yourself twice as much, in short, you hurt yourself. And I say you because I've been there too.

Cécile was eating very little, and depriving herself of many foods. And yet, things still weren't working. She couldn't understand why her body wasn't living up to all her sacrifices.

The reason is that she was starting from the wrong assumption.

Yes, the quantities you eat matter, but they aren't everything. If you eat little, but very calorie-dense foods, it's possible that you gain more weight than a woman who eats more than you, but less calorie-dense foods. And that's one of the things that was holding Cécile back (among others). 

The result? Cécile was eating: 

  • Too many calories on a daily basis without realizing it. That's why she didn't have a body she liked. Even though she was eating healthy foods, in small quantities, and forbidding herself certain foods.  
  • Too little protein. When you know that protein is essential for proper muscle development and satiety, you better understand why Cécile felt frustrated with her body and her diet. 

So how do you get rid of those extra kilos while toning your body and still enjoying what's on your plate?

It happens in 3 steps.

Step 1: Eat meals you enjoy

When it comes to nutrition, 80% of your physical results depend on: 

  • Your ability to stick with it over time;
  • The amount of calories you eat each day;
  • The amount of macronutrients you consume daily (protein, fats, and fiber).

So you have every reason to find meals you enjoy. Meals you can eat daily without getting tired of them. By doing that, nutrition becomes easy to manage. You no longer experience your diet as an ordeal, but as a pleasure.

That's all well and good Jérémy, but all the meals I like are too high in calories. What am I supposed to do? 

That's a very good question. One we've already asked ourselves dozens of times with my wife, Maëlle. That's why for several years now, we've been adding new healthy, indulgent, high-protein recipes to our site every week. You have more than 1,300 available to you. More than enough to never run out of inspiration.

Step 2: Eat the right amount of calories

The second step of the nutrition pyramid is the amount of calories you eat each day. To keep it simple, it's this calorie amount that determines whether you gain or lose weight.

If you're trying to lose fat while getting firmer, the idea is to create a caloric deficit. That means eating fewer calories each day than your body needs to function normally. In that condition, it will draw the energy it needs directly from your body fat, which allows it to be gradually eliminated.

How do you estimate the number of calories you should eat each day? 

It depends on your height, your current weight, your age, your daily activity level, and above all, your goals. You can estimate it using the calculator we set up.

We determine your exact calorie intake as part of coaching, and adjust it as you progress.

Step 3: Eat the right amount of protein, fats, and fiber

Once your daily calorie target is set, all that's left is to eat enough protein, fats, and fiber. 

For optimal results for your health and your body, we recommend that you eat:

  • 1.6 to 2.3 g of protein per kg of body weight (if you weigh 70 kg, that represents a range of 112 g to 161 g of protein per day);
  • 20 to 40% of your daily intake in the form of fats (the closer you get to 40%, the better the effects on your body);
  • Close to 25 g minimum of fiber per day.

All of that while, of course, staying within your daily calorie total.

Once these elements are in place, nutrition becomes easy to manage. Cécile says it herself: 

“Today, I've rediscovered the pleasure of cooking for myself. Before, I had no pleasure foods, everything was forbidden, everything was restriction. Chocolate, for example, had no place. Now, I'm allowed everything, without guilt. And paradoxically, it's precisely that freedom that gave me back the desire and pleasure to cook.”

She used to know nothing about calories, protein, fats, and fiber. Today, she knows them like the back of her hand (and believe us, it's very simple to understand). This full awareness of what she eats has opened up a world of possibilities for her. It allows her to eat freely. To eat what she likes, without guilt. To manage her nutrition without overthinking it. In short, it gives her control.

How do you make sure your strength training workouts and your nutrition are aligned with your goals? That's the third and final pillar for taking back lasting control of your body after 40. And that pillar is tracking your actions.

Counting your calories, weighing yourself, and tracking your training performance, or how to fully take back control of your body

Without reference points, how do you know whether what you're doing every day is helping you? Whether you're moving toward your goals, or on the contrary, away from them? 

Most women, like Cécile before coaching, move forward in the dark. They feel like they're eating healthily, without understanding why the results aren't there. 

The reason is actually quite simple. It's because they don't track daily: 

  • The amount of calories consumed;
  • The amount of macronutrients eaten (protein, fats, fiber);
  • Their daily weight fluctuation.
  • Their training performance.

They don't have a framework to operate within. Nothing to guide them. The idea here is simple, but essential: what can be measured can be improved.

Once your daily calorie total and your macronutrient targets are established, all you have to do is track them.

And to do that, nothing could be simpler. You just need to weigh your food (at least at first, to get your bearings), and enter the amounts into an app that calculates everything for you. Our app, available as part of coaching, is one example.

This method gives you a precise view of what you eat. It allows you to control, without becoming obsessive, what you put into your body. So that it benefits you. That way, you know exactly how many calories and macronutrients you've consumed over the day, the week, the month, and even the year. I overdid it a little today? No big deal! I'll rebalance things by eating a little less calorie-dense tomorrow. Without skipping meals. Without starving myself. Just by adjusting the meal and the foods I eat. That's all. 

It helps you keep a cool head. And above all, it keeps you from falling into the might as well give up mindset. In the end, it helps you stay in control. And that's all we're looking for.

Before she started counting her calories, Cécile thought it would bother her to do it. In the end, she quickly saw that the results followed. It worked so well that she didn't question it. She kept going, and the rest, you already know.

A strong, aesthetic body. 

And this tracking also applies to strength training. 

Tracking your performance allows us to adjust your program continuously. We're talking about progressive overload. When performance improves, the body improves. And when progress is controlled, the changes last. And once again, that's all we're looking for. 

Cécile isn't the only one doing this. All the women we coach do it. And the results speak for themselves.

Dorothée and Isabelle are two examples.

Dorothée, 53, had been active for 30 years. Between strength training and running, she was very active. Despite that, it was impossible for her to get the body she wanted. Her physique didn't even make her feel athletic. Like Cécile, she was eating healthy foods, but didn't realize she was eating too many calories. So she started counting her calories, and in 5 short months, her body transformed.

In short, she's a new woman who, at 43, succeeded in taking back control of her body. 

She can now enjoy the fruits of her efforts while continuing to take care of herself. She knows how to do it. Her shape and physical condition are no longer a problem for her. On the contrary, she has turned them into a strength.

In the end, she took back control of her life. The work Cécile did on herself goes beyond her physique. She used to feel like she was only half-living, and today she is full of life. 

She's an ordinary woman with an extraordinary journey.

She succeeded where many have failed, despite all the difficulties life put in her path.

10 months ago, I joined Jérémy's program feeling deeply exhausted, both physically and mentally, with the sense that I'd tried everything without ever being able to stick with it over time.

Living with moderate obesity, I tried different methods, diets, fasting, and even electrostimulation, but I always ended up giving up, with more frustration, more guilt, and extra weight gained.

The real wake-up call came when I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea: my weight gain was no longer just about my appearance or my self-esteem, but also about my health.

Hello, I'm 52 years old, and I had been struggling for more than 5 years trying to lose weight. I was exhausting myself doing cardio, Pilates, basically trying a bit of everything, and when it came to food, I thought I was eating well.

A difference of about 10 kg (weight loss) and a more toned physique.

Not everything was perfect. Sometimes, I didn’t follow the program, and Jérémy helped me let go of the guilt. Those moments are part of the process, what matters is doing your best and sticking with it. Sometimes, I felt like it was pointless, then I looked at the results. I was proud of myself. Other times, I was extremely consistent and it was absolutely on fire.

Before Jérémy, my body was a real obstacle and I didn’t understand why my weight was going up even though “I wasn’t eating that badly.”

I chose to start coaching after gradual weight gain that was worrying me. Despite that, the professionals I saw did not take me seriously, since my BMI was considered "normal." I was often told that "after 40, that's completely common." And yet, deep down, I knew something was wrong. I'm one of those people who prefer to listen to their own feelings rather than blindly trust conventional narratives.

I had never worked with a coach before reaching out to Jérémy, 6 months ago, after two back-to-back pregnancies, a lot of weight gained and then lost very quickly, but with major muscle loss, and along with that my self-esteem, my confidence, my physical reflection, and my judgment of this body, which was obviously only bringing to light a deeper inner unhappiness that had settled in and surely intensified over the years, a kind of abandonment of myself. I dreamed of it, and Jérémy made it happen!

How can I describe the incredible life-changing experience of meeting Jérémy, a coach who is educational, kind, and always listening?
The ideal coach, really!

I’ve never exactly been naturally slim, but I have to admit I really went off track in recent years, gaining 20 kg in 5 years without managing to turn things around.
Despite my various attempts, cardio, diet support, EMS electrostimulation classes, and even "good resolutions", none of them worked.
So in the end, I had more or less resigned myself and accepted it: it was too late to change, and I would just live with the consequences of letting myself go for the rest of my life, dissatisfied...

Then, this summer, came the wake-up moment: I couldn’t keep up with my sons and my husband or fully enjoy family activities.
Determined to change the course of things and stop suffering through it without reacting, I clearly identified what I needed: support from someone able to help me both nutritionally and physically.

I reached out to Jérémy after gaining weight following a thyroidectomy, combined with the onset of menopause.
