The goal of this guide is therefore to see how to successfully transform your body after menopause. 

But before that, a little context. Let's quickly look at Doris's past, at 58 years old. Doris's weight issues started 20 years ago, when she quit smoking. Going from 80 cigarettes a day to zero overnight is amazing, but it leaves a mark. As a result, 10 kilos settled all over her body, and that happened in just a few weeks.

At that point, Doris felt completely swollen and had the impression she was going to burst. So she started moving more often, playing sports, and eating lighter meals (salads and the like). And after a year, the results started to show. She managed to de-bloat and lose a few kilos. Results she managed to maintain for years by combining sports and low-calorie meals.

But that was before menopause entered the picture.

And then, disaster struck.

The same bloating Doris had experienced when she quit smoking came back. But this time, around her hips and stomach, even though she had never usually gained fat in those areas. All of that without changing anything in her diet or habits.

She started drinking slimming herbal teas and taking menopause medication, hoping it would do the trick.

No results.

Things changed a little during covid. Following her son's recommendation, she started doing the beginner-friendly workouts offered by Tibo InShape on YouTube. Not being used to training that intensely, she really felt it, as she puts it, but still managed to lose a little weight.

The problem was that she felt like she was putting in a huge amount of effort for very little result, until she eventually hit a plateau without losing fat in the areas that bothered her. While looking for a more personalized solution, Doris eventually came across our site and applied for coaching.

Now that you have the context, let's dig into the how. What did Doris have to do to get a slimmer, more sculpted body when she felt completely stuck?

Here is step number one for a successful post-menopause body transformation.
You can think of it like a recipe. Finding your [why] is the first ingredient you need to succeed in your body transformation.

Our brain is wired to keep us away from anything that feels difficult and push us toward anything that might bring immediate pleasure. You might think that's a good thing, but that is far from always being the case.

  • I know I need to work out, but I don't know where to start, I'll deal with that later;
  • I don't have time for my workout, I'll do it tomorrow;
  • I don't have time to cook, I'll order something to eat;
  • I don't have time to read labels when I go grocery shopping, I'll deal with that later.

The little voice in your head will do everything it can to make you give up. It does not want what's best for you, it is just looking for comfort. It is only an illusion of well-being. That is why you need to find something strong enough to resist it, something you truly want to achieve. Something you are willing to step out of your comfort zone for. Something you are willing to face difficulties for.

Without that:

  • You will struggle enormously to get started, always pushing it off until later;
  • Once you do get started, you will crack at the first difficulties because you have no real goal.

That is exactly what happened to Doris when she first wanted to quit smoking. At that time, she had no conviction, nothing to hold on to. That is why part of her was afraid of life after cigarettes and kept asking herself all kinds of questions. She was afraid of the unknown and of the void that quitting cigarettes would create.

  • What is going to happen once I quit?
  • How will I relieve my stress?
  • What routine will I put in place to replace the one tied to cigarettes?

It was only when she found her why that this fearful part of her disappeared. It was so effective that she quit smoking completely overnight and has not touched a single cigarette in the last 20 years.

And for her body, same battle. It was thanks to her why that she was able to manage her weight when she was on her own, and succeed in her body transformation when we coached her.

Ignore the [hearsay] and misconceptions to unlock your menopause weight loss

  • After menopause, it's over for you, you won't lose weight anymore and you won't be able to sculpt your body;
  • Forget about a flat stomach and a toned body;
  • You can kiss your youthful figure goodbye;
  • Your metabolism changes completely during menopause, making weight loss almost impossible.

We have heard these phrases so many times that it is exhausting.

Where Doris was strong was that she decided, long before contacting us, not to pay attention to all that nonsense. And if she was able to do that, which takes real determination, it was precisely because she had found her why. She knew what she was trying to achieve and quickly understood that misconceptions would only move her farther away from her goal. 

Here is step number two for a successful post-menopause body transformation.

A quick tip so you do not get fooled by hearsay: know that 99% of the people saying these things, usually without bad intentions, do not know what they are talking about. Would you let someone who read 2 magazine articles tell you how to raise your children? Probably not. So every time you hear claims presented as absolute truths, ask yourself this question: Does this person actually know what they are talking about?

You will see that in most cases, you will save your time and energy by not paying attention to it.

All of this brings us to the last ingredient Doris already had before contacting us.

Good things come to those who wait when it comes to slimming down during menopause

The key word here is patience.

When we start something, we often tend to want results quickly, ourselves included. Even if that means rushing and making bad decisions. Know that when it comes to losing fat and toning your body, there are no shortcuts. No pill or miracle method to transform yourself in 1 or 2 months. As the English say, trust the process.

Literally: trust the process.

A body transformation can take 6 months, 1 year, and even 2 years in extreme cases. Just thinking about that discourages some people. But if those people get discouraged before they even begin, it means they do not have their why. Because without a why, you will not have the patience needed to keep going with your transformation.

And without patience, no lasting results.

Which brings us to the 4th ingredient in this recipe: nutrition.

[You are what you eat] when you want to succeed in losing weight during menopause

These six words perfectly sum up the importance of informed eating. Understanding how what you eat directly and indirectly influences your physical appearance is crucial. Hormones, fat mass, muscle mass, skin quality, satiety, recovery, and more. Your diet affects all of these things.

Here is step number four for a successful post-menopause body transformation.

But first, you need to be aware of it and understand how it works.

And that is exactly where Doris was falling short. 

She had always thought that sports were the key to a slim, toned body. So she had no knowledge of nutrition. She did not understand the importance of protein for a toned, balanced body, the concept of the daily calorie amount to consume in order to lose weight, food volume, and more.

All she had were misconceptions, yes, those famous ones, such as:

  • I don't eat candy or cake, so I think I eat pretty healthy;
  • Parmesan is cheese, so it's bad for your health, and raclette, don't even get me started!

In short, she had no idea how to go about getting the body of her dreams while still enjoying food every day. As she herself says today, My nutrition was actually terrible.

So we had to make four changes to Doris's old habits, changes she gradually integrated into her daily life.

1. Increase the amount of protein in her diet

Too often neglected by women and non-athletes, protein is essential for recovery and muscle growth after training, as well as for satiety. Doris was no exception, so we adjusted her daily protein intake to match her needs (around 80g/day, or 1.6g of protein per kilo of body weight).

2. Reduce non-nutritive, unnecessary calories

One very telling anecdote from Doris involves the wasabi cashews she loved. She told us she used to eat an entire bag in barely 10 minutes. It was when she read on the back of the package that one bag contained more than 1000 calories that she started to realize how quickly you can consume a massive amount of calories, and therefore gain weight, without even noticing.

We taught her how to properly count calories.

She then gradually integrated the concept of a daily calorie amount, which is the number of calories to consume each day to lose weight, maintain weight, or gain weight, depending on her goal. She sorted things out and prioritized the calories she could get from foods that supported her weight loss, and her health.

That is also what Cécile, 48, did, and she sometimes reached 10000 calories in a single day!

3. Rework her meal portions

We often hear that to lose weight, you need to eat less, and that is what most diets are built around.

Know that this is false. Or rather, let's say it is not entirely true. A more accurate sentence would be, To lose weight, you need to eat fewer ultra-processed, ultra-calorie-dense foods, and more filling whole foods.

First, because whole foods are generally lower in calories, and second, because they provide better satiety.

That is where the concept of food volume comes in.

Take the example of a bag with a calorie counter that you fill with food. The bag represents your stomach. If you put a cookie in it, it will take up little space but be very high in calories. That is not a problem if there is only one. But if you fill your bag with cookies, you will be able to fit a lot of them in because they take up little space, which will result in an astronomical number of calories. On the other hand, if you fill your bag with salad, you will get a very low calorie total for the same volume of food.

Do not worry, you do not have to stuff yourself with salad every day to lose weight.

Just remember that you can lose weight while still feeling full at the end of your meals if you combine enough food volume, enough protein, and staying within your daily calorie amount.

That is why the sentence, to lose weight, you need to eat less, which you hear everywhere, is false.

Unless you are eating 3 burgers and 2 pizzas a day. In that case, yes, you are going to have to eat less food, unless you want to starve.

4. Learn to be [perfectly imperfect]

We are categorically against cheat meals. And that does not mean you cannot enjoy yourself.

What we mean is that you can absolutely allow yourself the occasional slipup. Have drinks and snacks with friends, eat a little too much at a meal, give in to a delicious slice of cake. It is part of the process, and it certainly does not make you someone who cannot stick to a diet. On the contrary, it makes you a healthy person achieving sustainable weight loss.

And that is exactly what we want.

The goal is certainly not to fall into some kind of unhealthy psychological rigidity that leads to self-punishment over the slightest slipup. No, the goal is to build healthy habits that will allow you to stay consistent over time without it feeling like a constant effort. So do not hesitate to give yourself these little pleasures from time to time. And above all, do it without guilt.

Simple, tasty, balanced meals that are easy to make, low in calories, and high in protein.

As you can see, a lack of nutritional knowledge explains why many women cannot achieve the figure they want. That is why our coaching method starts by giving you solid nutrition knowledge through our easy-to-follow nutrition guide.

All of this brings us to the final ingredient in the recipe for a successful post-menopause body transformation: 

For a slim, toned body, without wasted effort or wasted time, you need a personalized strength training program

Here is step number five for a successful post-menopause body transformation.

A personalized strength training program is an integral part of coaching. Without it, you can forget about a toned body and a lean silhouette. But you still need to know how to train. Which exercises should you choose? How many sets and reps should you do? How many workouts per week? These are all questions that should not be left to chance, otherwise you risk wasting time and putting in a lot of effort for nothing. 

That is exactly what happened to Doris before contacting us. 

She was following Tibo InShape's beginner-friendly videos while telling herself, as long as I give it everything I've got, I should be able to lose the fat that bothers me. No. Doing that kind of activity is a good thing if the goal is simply to burn energy. But if the goal is to sculpt your body and get a harmonious look, then it is not the right approach.

It is not the amount of sport that matters, but the relevance of the exercises chosen based on the goal you want to achieve. 

She wanted to: 

  • Relieve her back pain;
  • Get an X-shaped figure, which requires slimming the waist a little and broadening the shoulders a little;
  • Flatten her stomach;
  • Get rid of her bat wings, as she called them.

We chose 3 full-body workouts per week (full body = training the whole body in each workout). Each workout includes exercises tailored to Doris's goals and body type.

The goal: not to get lost in useless exercises that slow down her progress. Of course, we started gradually, and 15 months after she began, this is where she got to:

Despite having a varied athletic background, I was no longer making progress after a difficult ordeal and the effects of menopause. 10 months ago, I joined Jérémy's program feeling deeply exhausted, both physically and mentally, with the sense that I'd tried everything without ever being able to stick with it over time.

Living with moderate obesity, I tried different methods, diets, fasting, and even electrostimulation, but I always ended up giving up, with more frustration, more guilt, and extra weight gained.

The real wake-up call came when I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea: my weight gain was no longer just about my appearance or my self-esteem, but also about my health.

With Jérémy, I learned that I could make progress without being perfect, that a transformation journey is not linear, that some periods can be difficult, and that I can slow down or slip up sometimes, without questioning everything.

Hello, I'm 52 years old, and I had been struggling for more than 5 years trying to lose weight. I was exhausting myself doing cardio, Pilates, basically trying a bit of everything, and when it came to food, I thought I was eating well.

A difference of about 10 kg (weight loss) and a more toned physique.

Not everything was perfect. Sometimes, I didn’t follow the program, and Jérémy helped me let go of the guilt. Those moments are part of the process, what matters is doing your best and sticking with it. Sometimes, I felt like it was pointless, then I looked at the results. I was proud of myself. Other times, I was extremely consistent and it was absolutely on fire.

Before Jérémy, my body was a real obstacle and I didn’t understand why my weight was going up even though “I wasn’t eating that badly.”

After Jérémy, I understood: eating healthy is not the same as fat loss. There are so many factors to take into account, and I learned them by his side.

I chose to start coaching after gradual weight gain that was worrying me. Despite that, the professionals I saw did not take me seriously, since my BMI was considered "normal." I was often told that "after 40, that's completely common." And yet, deep down, I knew something was wrong. I had never worked with a coach before reaching out to Jérémy, 6 months ago, after two back-to-back pregnancies, a lot of weight gained and then lost very quickly, but with major muscle loss, and along with that my self-esteem, my confidence, my physical reflection, and my judgment of this body, which was obviously only bringing to light a deeper inner unhappiness that had settled in and surely intensified over the years, a kind of abandonment of myself. One morning, crying as I looked at myself, that was the wake-up moment. I searched online for "best sports coach comparison", I saw Jérémy Loreau, and intuition made me choose... I dreamed of it, and Jérémy made it happen!

How can I describe the incredible life-changing experience of meeting Jérémy, a coach who is educational, kind, and always listening?
The ideal coach, really!

I’ve never exactly been naturally slim, but I have to admit I really went off track in recent years, gaining 20 kg in 5 years without managing to turn things around.
Despite my various attempts, cardio, diet support, EMS electrostimulation classes, and even "good resolutions", none of them worked.
So in the end, I had more or less resigned myself and accepted it: it was too late to change, and I would just live with the consequences of letting myself go for the rest of my life, dissatisfied...

Then, this summer, came the wake-up moment: I couldn’t keep up with my sons and my husband or fully enjoy family activities.
Determined to change the course of things and stop suffering through it without reacting, I clearly identified what I needed: support from someone able to help me both nutritionally and physically.

So I typed "sports and nutrition coach" into my browser’s search bar and happened to come across Jérémy’s website, which both intrigued and captivated me.

After some hesitation, I finally took the leap and clicked "APPLY" to schedule my intro video call.
And I’m really glad I did!

I reached out to Jérémy after gaining weight following a thyroidectomy, combined with the onset of menopause. I was stuck in limiting beliefs, convinced, after reading many testimonials from women in my situation, that it was almost impossible to lose weight after that kind of surgery and with menopause.

I felt uncomfortable in my body and unable to seriously take control again. Thanks to Jérémy, I learned how to use the app intelligently and manage my calories and macros day to day. I realized just how much of a calorie surplus I was in without even noticing it. I wasn’t eating that much, and yet my little handfuls of hazelnuts were ruining all my efforts.
